What was the last bit of gear you bought?

Hi J, Thank you for all of that info. I suspect this might be something worth doing. Might be a little down the line as something more major will be happening on Tuesday/Wednesday! :sunglasses:

A daunting purchase: a second CDS3
It has received a new mech in 2015 and has been revised in 2020. Mint condition, and came with a spare mech (checked by Naim).

Now the silly part: i now have two CDS3, one with the VAM1250 and one with the VAM1202, both mechs replaced in 2015. Of course i will only use one of them, but the idea is to alternate every 6 month or so to keep them alive.

Is it a silly purchase in 2021 and with the current discussions about spare mechs for CDP? Probably maybe.

Would be great to hear about any differences after living with them both for a while. Mine has the original VAM1250, I have never heard one with the 1202.

A new NAC252 with a serial number beginning with 500xxx hopefully this is it for me…

Yeah, it doesn’t need anything fancy for the TV. This thing I got is about two inches square and cost peanuts. It improvement on TV sound but not special.

Up from 282 right? Would love to hear your thoughts with it on the 300 in comparison.

Your view on the silliness, or otherwise, is what counts

Not silly IMO. But then I’d happily spend a fair chunk of cash on my CD5 to keep it running, so not best placed to comment

Enjoy them 8) !!!

I hope they put a „stream“ labeled Input on units above 500xxx

Yep moved from a 282/SCDR, its early days but as it stands now (only two days in) the 252 is allowing the Dave to shine with more info flooding through, the 300 controlled with the 252 has more control especially at low volume.

Please note the 282 is not shabby at all and I could have easily lived with the 282 but my dealer offered me a deal I found hard to resist.

As a pre the 252 has a different presentation to any of the NACs I have owned over the years, I tried the 252 over 15 years ago and stuck with my then 82 but now the SCDR is in the mix the 252/SCDR has reversed my view and its an exceptional pre, more to come as it beds in, also I now own a full fat Fraim so good foundation for the 252.

With the new pricing of the 552 I won’t be going any further.

It’s a great place to stop amps-wise.
While I’d like to hear a 552/300, there are plenty of other great non-hifi things to spend my money on (cough…good Cognac…cough).

Sold off my office room system as I spend less and less time in there (I don’t work from home) and the music is only for background listening.

Access anything on Apple Music and stream BBC radio and Radio Paradise from my MacBook to the HomePod Mini. A much cheaper solution and works well for me. Could have a Qb2 but I think that would be overkill.

Hi @SRO ; very (!) interested in the clips. Can you give a bit more info on the name and where you found them? Interested as well.

A root and branch overhaul of my LP12 this weekend.
Lingo 1, Cirkus, Cirkus subchassis and hardboard baseboard replaced with Lingo 4, Karousel, Kore and Trampolin 2.
Like having a new turntable and record collection.

Podiums for my speakers. It’s quite effective with almost no vibrations into the floor. Hopefully this helps my neighbors.

With Naim préamp, do you use Dave in Amp mode?

Regards
David

Dave is set for Dac mode

When I had a Naim preamp I found that it sounded better with the volume dialled down a bit below maximum on both Hugo and Dave. This seemed to be standard advice that most Chord DAC users adhered to at the time. It has the added bonus of giving a wider usable range of the preamp volume pot.

Hopefully by way of keeping your neighbours happy you have discovered what your speakers are really capable of.
Look forward to your feed back.

Just in time to box them up for long term storage/sale.
