On holidays in Sydney, Australia and stopped by the best place for jazz CDs, Birdland Records.
That’s a serious haul! ![]()
I still love buying CDs and records… keeps me out of trouble ![]()
Might be time to upgrade the SACD player…
Red Eye Records opposite the Queen Victoria Bldg (western side) might worth a trip as well.
Enjoy your holiday. ![]()
Thanks, Pete - I’ll check them out today!

And with that, I’m definitely stopping now for a good few months to listen to my recent purchases.
Needed to add a couple of things to my Amazon order to get free delivery, and somehow it end up as 4.
I was dissatisfied with my current cd of Walton’s First Symphony, the 1987 Andre Previn recording (everyone prefers his earlier recording). I had fond memories of Vernon Handley’s 1978 vinyl recording and hoping to recapture its magic I ordered the Simon Rattle cd which was recommended in July 2022 as the best recording in Record Review’s Building a Library. It also had the benefit of a lovely recording of Belshazzar’s Feast. I last heard it in the early/mid 60’s when our music teacher played it to the class as a fairly modern piece of music as it was then just over 30 years since Walton had composed the cantata.
They are both enjoyable recordings with the Symphony recorded in Butterworth Hall and Belshazzar’s Feast recorded 7 years later in the Birmingham Symphony Hall which seems to have fabulous acoustics.
