Never actually listened to anything of Blue Nile’s
Kathryn Tickell & The Darkness:
Hollowbone
Cloud Horizons
Try “Hats” album by Blue Nile
Some excellent tracks - they only did 4 albums over 20 years from memory and for me Hats was their best
Listen to ‘Hats’ late in the evening, lights down, a nice glass of something - Great !
Dropped a bag of stuff off at the charity shop and picked these up for a paltry quid each:
Sade: Promise and To Diz with Love on Telarc. Only listened to some of the Sade so far - it’s an original 1985 pressing and sounds just wonderful. No (excessive) compression or brickwalling!
I’ve never really tried Sade before and I’m enjoying it. Which other albums would you recommend?

Another take on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Trying to work out how to describe it, possibly sharp and full of energy.
I actually bought it for Astor Piazolla’s composition. It is so different, full of emotion, powerful. I have heard him described as “just a dance band composer”. I admit that I came to his work via Libertango, Grace Jones, Sharon Shannon but there is so much more than that.
Electric Lady Studios
A Jimi Hendrix Vision
3CD+Blu-Ray boxset
Experience Hendrix/Sony Legacy
Nicely presented.
I like (rather than Love) Hendrix but I listened to half of this on Qobuz the other day and was really impressed. It’s a great record of an organic music making process.
Freiren Season 1 - OST
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 - OST
Tokyo Ghoul - Authentic Sound Chronicle (“Best of” OST)
Ado - Zanmu (special edition w/2024 live concert blu-ray)
I don’t normally buy CDs anymore as vinyl is my preferred physical medium but as I was in Japan these last few weeks I decided to pick up a few CDs that don’t have vinyl versions. The Tokyo Ghoul was an exciting find as I now finally own a copy of Munou by Osterreich which is the best opening song from the anime by far.
Back in March, having enjoyed the improvements of the 2020 remaster of Moving Waves, I added this to my want list. Looking forward to hearing this when it arrives.
Focus 3 / Red Bullet / 2020 Remastered Edition CD
Two by Sarah Davachi on her own label, Late Music.
Hypnotic and beautiful slow drones using a range of keyboards across the pieces plus bells, voices, brass & strings.
I was captivated hearing Hall of Mirrors on the Two Sisters album, so bought that and a companion album In Concert & In Residence.
Both of these are recent purchases made in HMV Cabot Circus Bristol - the DA was the first under A in the New Releases section so I grabbed it on sight!
Dorothy Ashby Afro-Harping
Bill Evans The Bill Evans Album
These were about to go in a skip
Put these on one side to listen to, there are fifteen that I will donate to U3a classical group, four to the jazz group. The rest will go to another charity shop where the manager us quite savvy, uses eBay, then any unsold go to a craft group.
This one…
I will keep.
Gradually buying from Discogs the cds that were on my now defunct Qobuz favourites list.
Dear Oh dear…. They were both in my streaming favourites but when I received them in the post they are the same bloody cd with different covers.
Still it proves the point of one personal reason for stopping streaming… So much to hear I just wasn’t paying attention just letting it wash over me.
They were only a fiver each so not much lost. Sparsie will go to a more rocky jazz friend.
