What was the last CD you bought

More fuel for the new cd player. I told myself I didn’t need any more cds.
But so cheap so irresistible.

I can’t resist a cardboard digipak, especially at £1

Two bought at a live gig at the Hidden Rooms in Cambridge.

Josephine Davies Quintet: Perspective (2009)
Satori: Weatherwards (recorded just two months ago)

Went shopping in town yesterday - Saturday - aim was to buy a new kettle. So, it might not surprise anyone reading that I ended up in the record shop afterwards :person_shrugging:t2:

Since first hearing SOHN maybe 18months ago, I’ve been fascinated by this singer songwriter. First listen was at a Naim 300 dealer listening event. Naim’s Jason Gould - his play list included “Veto”, from Tremors, (2104) one of several tracks that I took away from that evening and have played a lot.

Maybe others heard the same playlist, around the country ?

Laura Veirs : Eucalyptus
Pat Matheny and Charlie Hayden : The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Sohn : Veto
Fink : Sort of Revolution
Lyle Lovett : The Road To Ensenada
Camille Saint-Saens : Symphony No.3
Mercedes Sosa : Kyrie

Back in the record shop, came across album Trust (2022), the most recent of three studio albums to date, from SOHN. So, this CD came home with me…

Opened out

Lots of great tracks, different musical styles. If you like big sounds, that make the HiFi work, start with track 2 “Antigravity” or track 3 “Figureskating Neusiedlersee”. (Base line on this one is sublime).

For more delicate easy listening, try track 12 “Basis” or track 13 “Caravel”, which is pared back and acoustic, just simple piano chords and male voice. With some backing singers and harmonies later in the track. Sometimes less is more.

Music always has a story, or a connection with something, somewhere or someone.
Or at least it does for me ?

Happy Sunday listening

Are you happy with the Accuphase ?

Yes, heard that playlist, but in a different order and finishing with Hugh Masakela - Stimela.

Strange what different people take away, I’m still trying to fathom Sohn and Fink, dearly beloved dislikes Eucalyptus…

Oh yes. I have searched many years for this degree of (hi-fi) enjoyment.
Accuphase, I think, Only make cd players, dacs and amplification so they should know a thing or two.

That is a fine record. Little Pres Quinichette a firm favourite. You can usually hear the keys on his clanky saxophone opening and shutting.
It’s a pity the stereo image is so divided between left and right speaker not much in the middle. I always switch it to mono.

Another thumbs up for Accuphase…after many years of Naim gear …the build quality is excellent and the sound suits us perfectly…not cheap though ! I think that them not producing streamers is probably a good thing…just concentrate on what they do best.
I also don’t think that they have the production capacity for further items in their catalogue.
There is still the small problem (as with Naim )upgrade fever
All good for now …but l keep seeing the Audiovector Trapize speakers…

This a great listen, especially taking into account that most of these tracks were on their way to a final version.

Really underlines to me as well how seminal Hendrix was, so often sounding like two guitars were playing and/or incredible dynamics, whilst it really was just him (and often singing as well).

Of you don’t mind buying used CDs there are incredible bargains out there. The charity shop I popped into yesterday was selling 6 CDs for £1 or 20p each.

Couple of Bruce CD’s. Nothing spesh you may think. However we all know Born to Run is a bit of a mare when it comes to SQ and I have 3 Lp versions and a CD to lament over.

I came across a Steve Huffman piece recently in which he was vehement in his opinion about which issue sounds best.

So I went on ebay, found the CD he described, on for £2.99, received and played it earlier. He’s not wrong! Easily the best version I’ve heard.

I did something similar for Darkness…But not played that one yet.

Happy Wabbit.
