He will also play at North Sea Jazz this weekend, not sure though if I will watch….
Really? IF I was to just attend one concert at the North Sea Jazz Rodgers is it! 
I am more interested in real jazz acts - so if I have a good competing jazz one then I will skip Rodger’s - unless nothing else good is available…
My first concert at North Sea Jazz was the one with the Paradox Jazz Orchestra. A nice mix with Latin oriented big band music was a nice start into the festival.

Singer Zoe Schwarz with guitarist Rob Koral performing in lovely conditions earlier on.

Well for me all my fave jazz players are dead. 
The last one to go was Sonny Rollins. 
In that category we still have Charles Lloyd and he is at the festival. And I belief we also have a bit younger generation of new legends. Like Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny etc etc….
And great new stars….

Hate to be a Debbie Downer but My jazz journey ended just about when Lloyd came into the scene. End of Bebop. Redman, Marsalis Metheny I never much cared for their music. I remain old school.
P.S. Actually I realised Hancock is still alive! He is still worth seeing live. He still got it!~

I saw Pat Metheny last week. Go and see him live, as live it is another thing compared to his recorded output. I believe Jazz is a music that moves constantly forward. You still have Wynton Marsalis if you want to stay in the past, but Jasmine Myra, Walter Smith III, Lakecia Benjamin, Irreversible Entanglements and a whole new generation are making interesting music.

Self Esteem (and others) at York Museum Gardens
What a wonderful, chilled, and well organised show. Brilliant setting. Well done Futuresound, the Museum and York itself.
The support acts were good with The Big Moon outstanding.
Not seen the band before but great rock / indie guitar music, expertly played, and a great stage presence. On tour in the autumn and worth seeing.
Self Esteem is always a cathartic show.
RLT is a very energetic, emotional and honest performer. She had problems with the heat and some technical gremlins - mic turned off for the dramatic opening song! I adore ‘The Complicated Woman’ album and this accompanying show is equally powerful. A very mixed audience lapped it up and that woman can certainly sing. It’s not often that I feel priviledged to have ‘been there’ but this was certainly one occasion.
RLT alluded to some off stage issues making the day very difficult for her. I hope the crowd’s appreciation mitigated this just a bit; she is not a performer who takes praise easily!

The 2nd short snapshot at the North Sea Jazz Festival was Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orchestra performing Somni (2025 album). Fantastic impression - however the challenge of a festival I had chosen to move on (partly as I don’t like to stand back on back at an concert anymore). As you can see one of the largest venues at the festival.

Cecile is the artist in residence for the North Sea Jazz Festival. This was the 1st of in total 4 performances. She performed mostly from her latest album. As it’s quite varied you get moved from atmosphere to atmosphere. A pity is that she also sings French which I don’t speak anymore. It was a special concert, while she is not my absolute favorite artist.

Hoped I would like the concert of the Oud player. However it was not what I wanted to hear, too contemplative for such a festival. Not that they played bad or anything like that - just better music to hear on our systems and less appropriate or effective in a live context. obviously many of you can disagree but this is my personal opinion.

This was my 3rd concert yesterday at North Sea Jazz festival. Quite good, while I found Eric Harland at the first part of the concert a bit out of sync with what the others where doing. Not that he played his own tempo or something like that, but a bit more like not feeling the right mood for the song on hand. In the 2nd part of this concert things improved significantly and it sounded tight and nice.

The 4th concert for me at North Sea Jazz Festival on Friday was a kind of revelation. I had never heard of this guy (Vincen Garcia) from Spain. But he seems to have gained a following on social media given his remarkable bass playing. And indeed it was quite a performance with a guy who has ADHD or whatever the sickness is called or he had not one, not two, not three but four lines of coke before the concert. He was all over the stage and played like crazy licks and grooves. Definitely a guy to watch - bass porn. However at some point in time I also had heard enough and moved on to a next podium. Too much can sometimes be too much….

It was again a pleasure to see miss Krall at the North Sea Jazz Festival. She played and sung in a very laid back style, with her typical sublime phrasing and rawish voice. Many people where not so happy as they wanted more swing, drive and pyrotechnics….., I personally had to move on to another concert and couldn’t see how she further build up the energy in the room. But I was happy with what I heard so far….. a quality performance…..
Interesting was also the drummer with a vintage drumset…
