I don’t really have a view on Bibb, his music mostly passes me by, but I heard two tracks from this earlier today and was rather impressed. It’s out in September and has Ron Carter (yes THE Ron Carter) on bass. I’ve asked for a full copy so if I get one I’ll give it a listen and give you my impressions.
His earlier stuff on the Opus 3 label is worth checking (eg Good Stuff, Spirit And The Blues and another which is slipping my mind right now) and I rather like Deeper In The Well which was an RSD special way back sometime
Not to split hairs, the information I have from Resident Music says Aug 20 for Dear America
Eric Bibb’s albums Get on board & especially Diamond days are just magic. Highly recommend.
Sitting in my cab streaming Curtis Mayfield and browsing my favourite online record specialists.
Came across this Rhino 4LP set still in stock from a couple of years back, does anyone know if it’s any good in terms of mastering SQ & pressing?
Keep On Keeping On: Curtis Mayfield Studio Albums 1970-1974 (remastered)
Cheers
It’s an excellent set.
I posted impressions of the first LP here. The rest are just as fine.
Thank you for chipping in so promptly Richard. Yes, I looked on Discogs and it appears Chris Bellman cut at Bernie Grundmans and pressed at Optimal (2019 so perhaps before their QC started slipping).
A few reviews complained of the Curtis LP being badly warped, I take it not in your case?
Cheers
No warps on mine, but yes, I recall some complaining later on that their LPs were warped. Probably a storage issue?
The box set is very very good @Dreadatthecontrols. Chris Bellmann did the masters on all four. Zero probs with the quality of the vinyl.
One was saying something to do with the design of the box putting pressure on the Curtis record in the box.
Would you adam n eve it! No fares all morning then a punter inconveniently wants a ride into town! Had to decline, Curtis Mayfield is far more important and I need to hit the pay button on that box set now.
Thanks @TheKevster @Richard.Dane @Eoink for chipping in
Probably too late now anyhow, but I have it too and it sounds good, although I don’t have any LP issues for comparison. It was well regarded by the Hoffman devotees on release.
Cheers Clive, it’s now in the bag
Great deck and cart combination the very same as mine!
I’ve responded to your query via the WAYLTAW thread and then saw your query on this thread. As I said there, I was one of those who had problems with a bad warp on Curtis. I see you’ve now ordered it, so I’ll be interested to learn if you get a good copy. I’ve been tempted from time to time to try the vinyl boxset again because, as others say, the sound quality is excellent.
Only top quality & clean records for this setup, otherwise your going to hear a poor pressing straight away. Extremely detailed playback love it.
Yes very true,
I have an old EA 150 stylus too which is a nude elliptical and better suited to those lesser quality pressings it’s easy to just swap stylus back and forth with these AT carts.
