Arrived this week brand new from Nashville. Gillian Welch the Harrow & The Harvest and David Rawlings Nashville Obsolete. I consider myself very, very lucky as the Gillian Welsh LP is a first pressing and is a Grail for me. Fantastic analog recordings.

I’ve always wanted a copy of the Mulligan meets Webster how does it sound?

Couple of birthday treats from the wife and kids…

Both are Music on Vinyl releases. The Champion Jack is superbly recorded and pressed - one of the best blues recordings I’ve heard from that period. Scratch up next…

Art Pepper - Stardust, Omnivore Recordings (2023)

Another excellent Art Pepper reissue from Omnivore Recordings nicely pressed and an excellent sounding master from Michael Graves at Osiris Studio, LA.

And all for a little over £20 excellent value.

Another lovely slab of Tone Poet delivered by Juno and postie this morn. Not sure what the cover is meant to be saying tho - is that Mrs J behind the rock?

Yes, his wife Keiko Jones. Every gig I ever saw by Elvin, she would be out front beforehand tuning up the drums.

This LP is another one I have on a good Liberty original so will likely pass.

Good old HMV…

Every time I go in, everything seems to cost twice what it does elsewhere ! Selection choice much curtailed these days too, particularly CDs.

That is certainly true for 95% of their stock - but I always check the sale bins. Some real bargains over the last few weeks.

Today’s bounty…

It’s the digitally remastered version of MMT (2009 by EMI), sounds superb all round. I think the versions of the tracks on the recently released red and blue albums are prob better remasters but it is certainly very enjoyable and at a cheaper price.

Everyone Digs Bill (Blue Note) is a pretty basic pressing with a couple of pops and skips. The recording suffers from time to time from that washed out sound you get when the pianist hits the key a little too heavily and causes the microphone to distort. Bit of a shame, otherwise a great album.

Halsall - Great recording, as usual.

Studio One - typical Soul Jazz quality (high). Wheel and come again my selectaaa!

If anyone is interested then you can buy Beth Gibbons “Out of Season” for £15:17 on the River. Looks like a 2019 repress and remastered at Abbey Road.

Very good it is too, even if it’s not completely devoid of that weird phase issue with the central image that seems to afflict all the more recent AR releases I’ve heard. I can’t help but think that something’s not quite right with the setup there. But then I seem to be very sensitive to such phase anomalies, whereas others don’t seem to notice or at least not bothered by it.

Yes, heard you mention this before, will listen out for it on this release. Been a few years since I last played this so looking forward to it.

This was £13:99 so bought this as well. Folky/Pop music, believe she’s from California with Ty Segall on guitar

Final bargain record that was £15:00, bought new but has a seam split.

I agree that the new remixes on the ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ albums are generally better, but I cannot get over what they’ve done to the end of I am the Walrus. I have even written to Giles asking if, when they release a complete remixed version of the MMT album, it can be restored to the ending I grew up with. Funnily enough he hasn’t replied! :joy:

I can’t be the only one who thinks that they don’t sound as good as the originals. Different yes, but more ‘Hi-Fi’ and in your face to me :man_shrugging:
Thank goodness we all hear differently and each have our own opinions that aren’t wrong though :+1:
