Which Speakers Cable?

Lucifer, these connectors were never sold as being intended to solder. The speaker cable was only intended to be secured by the two Allen screws and there was no insert supplied with them for crimping to the cable. Hope, this helps.

Sorry Lucifer it looked like the wire had sleeves on them.

Many thanks ChrisSU, but I canā€™t have NACA5 in my room.
It will be to difficult to install correctly 2x3.5 meters of NACA5 :sob:

but yes one day, I will try !!!

Try Witch Hat Phantom speaker cable.

I will

thanks

To clarify, what exactly is soldered to what in the standard black plastic Naim double pronged plugs, which I have at both ends of each wire?

Can I unscrew the screw and take the black plastic cover off and have a look inside without dislodging anything?

And how would I pack 2x 4m of NACA5 for a postal journey to stop it getting crushed, bent, mangled or damaged? That would take a lot of bubblewrap and cardboard to make it bombproof - but then Iā€™d have a large and heavy parcel to send there and back.

Hi Jim,
Maybe the best advice I can offer you here is to find a reputable dealer and give them a call or a e-mail. Iā€™m sure they will offer you the best way forward in what to do with regards to sending off your cables. If it were me (and drawing from my own experiences here) i would kindly ask the dealer to put brand new plugs on rather than trying to salvage the old ones, really worth doing, seriously!

Now I am very undecided between WhitchHat Phantom and Mark Grant Van Damme 6mm. he intrigues me a lot. What do you think?

Maybe you should ask that question to ā€¦himā€¦?

All my cables are Markā€™s. Quality stuff, no dubious advertising, great service etc etc. Give him a call, heā€™ll help you out.

My doubt is whether Nark Grantā€™s cables are compatible with Naim BBC amplifiers.

What are Naim BBC amps? Anyway if it was me Iā€™d go with the Witch Hat, since EX Naim guys designed the cables.

You have a NAP250PRO?

If so, itā€™s a bit different to the regular Naim power amp. For one, it has balanced inputs and uses Speakon connectors for the speaker cable connection. Also, thereā€™s also extra inductance networks on the output to allow the use of a wide range of speaker cables

No I have a NAP 250 serial number N. 1400.

Ah, OK, when you mentioned Naim BBC amp I thought it might be a NAP250PRO, which was developed specifically for the BBC.

Witch Hat Phantom sounding amazing straight out of the box. Quieter noise floor, detail, more airy, more presence. I was able to ascertain some instruments that I couldnā€™t tell before. Perhaps my previous run of NACA5 sucked or was terminated badly or too short I wonā€™t know.

Very satisfied with the purchase and perhaps will get better after some running in.

Sorry I meant Naim NAP amplifier and not BBC, it was the automatic writing that made the mistake.

The Phantom speaker cable is special and to my lugs a vast improvement over NACA5.

I purchased the Phantom on its release and is still in use today, used on a 250DR and now 300.

Iā€™m moving house soon so I will be looking to purchase longer lengths maybe 6-7 mtrs, my current shorter lengths will move to my UQ2 and Allaes::grin:

Well, I unscrewed the black plastic casing on one terminal of my NACA5 yesterday and it is indeed soldered - and seems to be done very well to my untutored eye.

Hi Jim,

If that looks good to you and sounds well then thatā€™s all that matters. My opinion (to be brutally honest here) is they were soldered with an underpowered iron and with lead-free solder. You want the opposite to that so the solder flows through all the cable strands and 100% seals them onto the pin with no copper exposed. Send them off to a dealer that knows his onions in this regard is my advice.

See Christopher_Mā€™s post above.
