Which whisky are you drinking and why someone else might enjoy it?

The neighbours! Popped into Lagavulin the other day thinking I might get a bottle of the 16 YO but after spending a relative fortune at Ardbeg I thought better of it. Next time I go to Islay I’ll need to have a lot more funds available, what with 13 distilleries now or shortly to be operating.

Many years ago when I first tried an Islay malt I just didn’t like it, I suppose I simply wasn’t ready for it! So I trended towards various Speysides. That was until recently when a friend gifted me this bottle of magnificence! I’m content now.

After a fabulous tour of N Ireland, picked this up after a tour of lovely Bushmills distillery. Nectar….. bourbon and sherry barrels, finished off with a few months in port barrels. Exquisite…..

Loving these cans of ‘Smoky Whisky Highball’ in Japan. Whisky from the Saburomaru distillery mixed with soda water. A 350 ml can is £2-50 and is 9%! Absolutely delicious

here in Switzerland lagavulin 16 whent up like 30 bucks in only 2 years i may get probally ardbeg or laphroig x mas

Hi @jazzz ,

Whisky prices do seem to have shot up over the past few years, at least the ones I drink have.

I’ve got a bottle of Lagavulin 16YO on my Christmas list along with Bruichladdich’s Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, Heavily Peated and Kilchoman 100% Islay 11 Year Old Sherry Cask Matured.

The Kilchoman one is a bit of an unknown to me but I did visit the distillery back in 2011, just a few years after it opened and sampled its new spirit. It’ll be interesting to see how it’s progressed over the years (if Mrs Dipper buys me it for Christmas!).

Opened this bottle tonight. From the wine monopoly. Very knowledgeable staff that are not employed to earn money for the company.

All set for a wee dram with Mrs R on Burns Night. Choice of malt whisky prompted by @bhoyo on another recent thread.

No haggis for us tonight - I failed to catch any of the little blighters!

Just opened this very nice smokey Bruichladdich. New to me but will be buying again.

The distillery tasting notes always make me laugh - for example, “The smoke is calmed by the marine, ozone character. While the smoke is always discernible on the nose it is dry and earthy in its style, allowing the oak to come forward with waves of golden caramel, fudge, vanilla custard, hints of ginger, nutmeg and clove. There is citrus fruit, coaxed from the glass with a drop of water, gentle lemon meringue and clementine. Breathe deeply and the floral aromas of wild thyme, heather and sea pink transport you to the Atlantic coast.”

A great dram nevertheless - recommended if you like Islay style.

I do. I’ll look out for it.

Dingle - Single Malt Irish Whiskey

I finally had occasion to open this after having it for a few years. A friend gave it to me for cat sitting a number of times (the cat has since been given away)

Very tasty
