Racism is bone deep in the United States. It’s always lurking, almost everywhere. But in some places, such as parts of the South, it remains a potent and toxic force.
Plenty of examples of racist policing in America on YouTube.
I am sure you are right, but the level of racism depicted seemed more like 1963 vs 2023.
To be fair, I haven’t seen it yet. I’ll probably watch it this week some time.
Eagerly awating Tulsa Kings Season 2 tomorrow.
Rings of Power Season 2 is improving steadily, silly beards apart.
I loved Tulsa Kings S01, so am also chomping at the bit for this.
Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn is hilarious in Bad Monkey, and everyone is stellar in Slow Horses.
Sons of Anarchy – watching via U’s streaming service. Violent yes, scheming galore, and storylines which would have made Shakespeare proud. Never a dull moment, and like The Sopranos, the ends are always seen to justify the means. The town of Charming is so ironic.

We’re enjoying Un Amore on Sky Atlantic.
Well, damn. The first episode of Tulsa Kings season 2 was wretched. It’s almost as if the writers knew fans of season 1 would tune in anyway, so didn’t bother with wit, didn’t rise above cliché, and didn’t give me any reason at all to watch episode 2. Although, to my shame, I probably will anyway.
I loved it. Strangely enough, racism was not the first impression I had from the Police’s behaviors, rather of that unique mix of rage, ignorance and frustration that comes to miserable men wearing a uniform…
I watched a very interesting film on Netflix, Vast of The Night. Good script and bizarre dialogues, great cinematography, an excellent actress, a weird story…
Enjoyed the first couple of episodes of Nightsleeper on BBC. Good premise for the story if a little far fetched (or is it?).
It’s complete and utter toss🤣
Having worked on the signalling systems and the back office IT systems, it indeed is complete tosh. On the other hand its a cracking story and I’m loving it so far.
There has been much hilarity in the model railway community about this show.
I have had to bite my tongue so as not to annoy Mrs Plane with comments as we watched it.
steve
PS I think it’s hilarious tosh.
Hi Max, I really enjoyed The Vast of the night. I saw it a few years ago and loved its quirky story line. It’s no longer available here on Netflix.
As for Rebel Ridge I appreciate the stress the American police under. Some of their corruption seemed to stem from chronic underfunding. Add to that there is chronic stress on the US police dealing with potentially armed felons all the time, which ramps up their aggressive arrest procedures as they could potentially be shot at any moment.
There is a Nicole Kidman series on Netflix called “The perfect couple” , a murder mystery set on Nantucket Island. It is noticeable in this programme that the police are partially funded by the some of wealthy island inhabitants for cars etc which certainly fosters corruption. It’s a good watch by the way.
About to board episode 4 of ‘NightSleeper’. Compelling in its awfulness.
G
Strangely compulsive. Just finished ep 3. Saving 4 for tomorrow.
I was two episodes in before I realised it wasn’t a documentary.
G
LOL.
Enjoyed it at some level - but it is really stupid at many levels.
