My SL2s have died!

Its a sad day, my SL2s have reached the end after I pressed the + on the volume within Naim App (platform Android) it sent an instruction to the 552 to output full volume for about 3-4 seconds before I could hit the pause button.

When I pressed the + I tapped it twice but the volume just carried on going, even after I pressed the pause button the 552 volume wouldn’t go counterclockwise until I terminated the Naim app !!!

What a f**k up, completely pi55ed off that my SL2s are now redundant as there’s no parts available, it could be the tweeters, crossover who knows!!

The SL2s still work, sound still outputs from the tweeters and main drivers but its lifeless. The SL2s sound like a pair of £50 speakers from Richer Sounds bargain bucket.

Ooh dear……so sorry to hear that, hopefully someone can help🤞🏽

I’m so sorry to hear this news. I am sure they can be repaired. Naim still service their speakers I presume. Or else a third party will be able to.

@david1111 had a similar issue on this thread

@Dan_M scanspeak stopped making the tweeters a while ago, there’s an alternative tweeter but its not the same

Never heard naim app doing this. The Spotify app though when you accidentally press the side volume buttons in your pocket.

Tragedy! Condolences.

What are the alternative tweeters meant to be like? Is it worth getting this work done. You will need to resale them if you don’t them.

It’s not my area but I think there are a number of specialists who service Naim speakers. You may even be able to get used tweeters.

I’ve always used my Android mobile to control the volume via the Naim app this is the first time it has happened, no drink involved too!!

It appears the app just carried on sending a clockwise volume instruction for 2-3 seconds then hit max volume on the 552. There was resistance on the 552 pot as I couldn’t manually turn it counterclockwise until I terminated the app.

You say you’re still getting sound from all the drivers, so I’m wondering whether you’ve just damaged the crossovers with the unintended max volume. You may want to contact Darran at Class A for advice as a starting point before giving up on the speakers.

Good luck - I hope you can get them back to full working order.

I am unsure what support exists for Naim speakers, like the SL2.

@Richard.Dane - ??

No spares for a long time. :scream:

I believe Naim can still service the crossovers. Might be an idea to contact TomTom Audio to see what they suggest.

Have you tried another pair of speakers ?
It might be the Power amp, that’s the problem…

Maybe Tom Tom?

Well, there’s no speaker dept. any more, obviously. I know that there were still a few drive units I spied on the shelf last time I visited, but whether they are for SL2s, I don’t know - best check with Naim via your dealer.

@Hifiman, The new Scanspeak tweeter can be fitted to the SL2 with some slight modification to the arm. However, if the mid/bass drivers are cooked then it’s down to replacement. If Naim don’t have any left then you could do a lot worse than look for a pair of Credos to take the mid/bass drivers for your SL2s.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try a pair of SBLs over the weekend on the NAP250, my guess is the 250 will be okay.
I will also call Darran tomorrow and take advice on the PXO.

I would now look into purchasing a pair of new NEAT speakers. You never know, it may well be a blessing in disguise. Anyway, hope you get your SL2 ‘s sorted…

Sorry to hear about the accident, Sean.

As Richard mentioned, there is a thread giving detailed instructions of how one person bought the new scanspeak equivalent tweeters and fitted them.

When I change my tweeters for new ones about two years ago, Sean Jacobs fitted mine for me because Darran couldn’t do it at that time.

But Anyone handy with hot glue and a soldering iron could do it themselves. I think.

Naim Serviced my SL2 passive crossover a couple of years ago.

If they have stopped doing it, Sean et al make a passive crossover that is designed for SL2s.
