$200-300 max
Hi friends! interested in the opinion of experienced members of the forum. What do you think - is this set good: nac 62, nap 110, snaps? I want to take myself as the first vintage musical components. price ÂŁ1100. thanks for answers.
Err⌠YesâŚ!!!
But⌠it would appreciate being better supported than as shownâŚ
Cant go wrong with shoe box chrome bumper tbh.
Price is about right if serviced by Naim or Naim agent, includes phono cards and original boxes / cables, and is in excellent condition. Otherwise, its a bit steep for UK pricing.
thanks for the answer. The service was as the seller claims. Iâm going to see them today.
Also wanted to ask the guru - I read that snaps are not very good in a combination of 62/110, that it does not reveal the potential of 62/100, but hicap takes 62/110 to a new level.
Is it so?
A SNAPS is just fine. Yes, a HICAP is better still, but itâs also more expensive.
My first PS was a SNAPS. For my 42/110. The HiCap had just come out, but the -5 preamps had not. The wisdom was that the HC didnât make that much difference, in single rail mode.
The SNAPS allowed me to swap the 110 to a 250 - which I still have - back in 1985. Not long after I had my 42 converted to a 42-5 - and then got a HiCap - which I still have.
But⌠the SNAPS started and enabled it allâŚ
I found the SNAPS more musically coherent than the Hi-Cap with 32.5 and 42.5 although it didnât do the HiFi stuff as well. I have a bit of an ear for Linn tunedem type of presentation though, or maybe I just had a weak Hi-Cap. As always, you need to decide whatâs best for your ears, but certainly this is a great way to get into CB amps.
I have a NAC62 with a NAP140. I added a SNAPS to power a NAT101 (now sadly defunct).
Out of mild curiosity I used the SNAPS to also power the preamp, and noticed a very significant improvement. I borrowed a HICAP for a couple of weeks, and although it was better still, it was nowhere near the jump from nothing to the SNAPS and it didnât seem worth the cost (particularly as I think I would have had to keep the SNAPS to power the tuner).
I decided to use the money to buy more records, rather than frittering it away on fripperies such as groceries and utility bills. YMMV
My CB250 appears to be poorly. I decided to tidy my mains cables and so powered off my system for about 10 minutes to untangle things, shortly after powering backup the 250 went off. At first I thought the bulb had gone but it hadnât, the Powerline Lite tests fine on the multimeter as does the fuse in the back of the 250.
Luckily Class A isnât too far away and after quick call to Darran Iâll be having a trip to Sheffield tomorrow.
Update:
I am a numpty . The two month old bulb failed and I mustnât have given the 250 enough time to discharge properly so when I switched it back on there was no speaker thump. I took this as ânot workingâ.
Iâve now replaced the bulb and all seems to be OK. Iâll double-check in the morning and then confess to Darran.
Item 1 - No CommentâŚ
Item 2 - The Bulbs can goâŚ
But usually last longer that 2 monthsâŚ
Are you using the ârightâ BulbsâŚ???
Overall, a good resultâŚ
Have you checked that the Powerline is properly connected? If not, the arc can blow the fuse or sometimes the bulb.
Yes, mostly they last longer though.
Itâs a Powerline Lite but your oft quoted advice popped into my head and I did check it was plugged in properly.
It was the end of a long and busy day is my excuse.
CoolâŚ
Well done⌠Now⌠get some speakers and get it all workingâŚ!!!
They look like they are in great condition.
Outstanding! They look like theyâre in perfect cosmetic shape. Well done.
Definitely a bucket list buy for me - although Iâve no longer any room for another system⌠they look to be in great condition so congratulations.
Anyone tried/use an alternative to the CB Hi-Cap with their CB pre-amp, such as Olive HC, Supercap, HC DR, etc?
